  This was short Knowledge transfer award assessing the feasibility of using graphene as a barrier coating on metal packaging for food. The short duration of the project required effective time management, including the rapid acquisition and analysis of data and determining the most effective direction for continuing research. This project also required concise communication of results to people with limited understanding of the subject area. Thesis title: pH and redox-responsive hollow polymer particles: towards an injectable gel for load-bearing soft-tissue repair.This involved the formation of linear copolymers using free radical solution polymerization and subsequent particle formation using a modified solvent evaporation technique. Following crosslinking, the morphology, swelling and mechanical properties of the particle systems was investigated using a variety of analytical techniques.

  As part of the new applications team I am involved in the development of new technologies for saving water using Xeros XOrb technology. Over 10 years I have been involved in or lead projects focused on detergent formulation, garment dyeing, Ethanol from lignocellulosics, biodegradable polymer evaluation and others. As lab manager I am responsible for the well-being of all people who use the laboratory, making sure that all health and safety documentation is in order and that everyone working in the lab has what they need. This involves procurement, maintenance and people management.As Science Coordinator/Senior Scientist I am responsible for the organisation and day to day running of the research team. This includes management of multiple projects and people in addition to reporting, objective setting and safety. I am also responsible grant proposals and external collaborations within the team. Show less As part of the research and development team I help supervise the analysis, performance and formulation of various materials for the laundry and leather processing industries utilising innovative Xeros technology. I'm also involved in cycle design, detergent formulation and chemical modification of materials. My role also includes travel to meet with partners in industry and universities to decide on the direction of research and negotiate the nature of further cooperation. At various points I have also managed a small team of scientists working on rapidly changing projects. Show less While undergoing expansion the R&D division of the company was separated into individual technology platforms. For ~1 year while a more senior business person was recruited I acted as technology platform leader for the polymer developments platform. This involved management of a team of 4 people and their research projects. I was also required to lead interactions with multiple external parties with regards to Joint development agreements with other companies, University collaborations and other discussions. Show less
