My responsibilities and achievements were in the following four main areas: I provided environmental services for land development projects, conducted environmental assessments, performed field studies and laboratory work.Land Development•Obtained environmental approvals from government agencies for numerous land development projects. Prepared submissions describing potential impacts, recommended mitigation measures following Best Management Practices to prevent impacts and compensation, if required. Environmental Assessments•The principal projects I worked on were hydropower development in the Fraser Valley and Southern BC and a water treatment facility in the lower mainland. For these projects, I collected and analyzed baseline environmental data, coordinated studies with subconsultants, prepared reports and presentations to the government agencies and the public. Field Work•Planted and monitored native vegetation in riparian areas and assessed fish populations in water courses where compensation work had been completed.•Conducted field work for the hydropower projects including detailed fish inventories and habitat assessments, benthic invertebrate studies, water quality sampling, radiotelemetry studies of adult rainbow trout and bull trout, and detailed sampling of channel geometry and hydraulic conditions for the determination of instream flow requirements using IFIM.•Conducted sampling for contaminated site assessments.•Did construction monitoring. Lab Work•Within the IRC accredited (CAEAL) biotesting laboratory, conducted routine and non-routine aquatic toxicity tests, performed data analysis and prepared reports. Prepared Standard Operating Procedures for culturing Hyalella azteca and Chironomus tentans and for conducting sediment bioassays with these organisms.•Enumerated benthic invertebrates for a three-year study of the impacts associated with the application of road de-icing products on benthic invertebrate communities.
