  Produce Associate

  As a Walmart produce associate, I became intimately familiar with the proper stocking, storage, and culling of America’s favorite fruits, vegetables, nuts, dressings, and tofu products. I was enthusiastic about leading tours of the produce department to new managers. I eventually achieved a personal side project of speeding up our department’s work pace by improving the efficiency of our tag location system.

  At Bruno’s, I learned to operate a multitude of industrial equipment, including Penske commercial trucks, hydraulic stake drivers, jackhammers, and forklifts. Though I often delivered party equipment and furniture, such as cotton candy machines and lawn chairs, I spent most of my time assisting in the erection and take-down of massive canvas tents, usually for large-scale parties, weddings, and conventions.

  My position with RMHCS' procurement department was an incredibly dynamic one. Though my primary duties focused on the research and purchase of medical and long-term care equipment, the position quickly expanded to include delivery and inventory management. Following the integration of the company’s inventory of durable medical equipment (DME) into procurement’s warehouse, I became reliably proficient with the assembly and basic repair of DME, including wheelchairs and hospital beds.

  Between Theatreworks’s 2014-2015 season, I was involved in the construction and preparation of 7 unique theatrical sets. The construction aspect of this position had me largely focused on a variety of projects that included stage building, painting, and lighting installation. The preparation aspect of this position had me largely focused on prop set-up, scene transitions, and striking.

  Alternative Media Production Assistant

  Because of my passion for books and for helping people, I thrived at the Assistive Technology Lab. It didn’t take me long to become a reliable text editor and a dependable creative force within our small team. Each semester, I helped process over 100 inaccessible materials such as textbooks, assignments, diagrams, and notes for students with disabilities. Utilizing specialized software and hardware, I converted them into accessible formats including Word, PDF, braille, and audio recordings.Furthermore, I was notably comfortable helping out students with disabilities face-to-face and teaching other students, faculty, and staff about accessibility and how technology has changed the way everyone learns. I helped extend our mission to others through the creation of promotional videos, printed material, and accessible design tutorials. Show less

  Summer Marketing Specialist

  My summer with A&A familiarized me with the tactics involved in traditional soft-sell advertising and distribution. I aided in the company’s summer strategy to obtain A/C installation leads, distributing over 7,700 brochures and yard signs throughout most of the new housing developments in eastern Colorado Springs. Before the end of the summer, I became familiar enough with the reactions to A&A’s ads that I was confident in suggesting improvements to management about the content of the ads.

  Blakely + Company was generous in helping me work with their experienced team and to see the advertising industry from an internal perspective. Much of my time was spent between the media and accounts departments, lending a hand with urgent client projects, including: competitor analyses, social media content planning, event venue comparisons, website auditing, target market data pulls, crowdfunding strategy research, and proofreading copy.I followed up my time at Blakely + Company with an extensive report detailing my experience at the agency and whether UCCS prepared me for the internship. My work and my criticisms were both received positively by a UCCS senior instructor which prompted my curriculum suggestions to be forwarded to the UCCS marketing department chair for consideration.   USAA is outstanding when it comes to reinforcement of its job knowledge. Despite over four years of service with the company, I have spent over 5 months across that time becoming licensed in both property and casualty insurance in every state, and most importantly, perfecting my own reflection of the company’s world-class service and adhering to the core values of USAA’s undying dedication to its over 13 million members. After several months of excellent statistics in both service and sales, my manager nominated me for the March 2020 Made for Excellence award. My confidence with the job has led me to set my sights even further down my career path within the company and I am working actively to take the appropriate steps to take my career to the next level and to become an even more essential part of the USAA family.
