This can also include making decisions on the balance of probability. Response Investigator

Response Investigator is a fairly broad title... for a fairly broad job. Each day is different. My main responsibilities include interviewing suspects who are in Police custody, having gotten themselves arrested for one reason or another. I then seek a disposal decision - be this to charge them, bail for them for further enquiries, or release them from custody with no further action. Dealing with custody utilities my flexibility. One moment I am speaking with a distressed victim, then I'm providing case disclosure to legal advisers. Some days end in long phone calls to the Crown Prosecution Service, seeking advice from senior Lawyers over whether we can prove a criminal case beyond all reasonable doubt. If a day isn't spent in custody, then I am normally out and about gathering information to help towards secondary investigations. I take statements from key witnesses, or view CCTV in order to identify further lines of enquiries. I also undertake voluntary interviews - where I have completed a secondary interview, and identified a suspect, who has been invited to attend the Police Station voluntarily.I attend pre-arranged appointments with people wanting to report crime. I meet face to face with victims of crime, and take on their complaints forward. I investigate all the information which they are able to provide, and make sure they are aware of the progress of the investigation throughout it. This role is shift work based, as crimes occur 24/7! I am required to be flexible - If I'm interviewing a suspect at the end of my shift, I am duty-bound to complete the case before I log off for the day. I am not there to make the decision of guilt, I am there to prove or disprove an allegation, and collate all information so that Judge and Jury can form a decision beyond all reasonable doubt.I am PEACE trained, and my interviewing technique follows PEACE guidelines. I work to PACE standards and make sure that I am aware of changes to PACE as they happen. Show less
