Show less The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization of over 50,000 activist and 90 chapters that protect the enjoyment of our oceans, waves and beaches. The Rise Above Plastics Committees mission is to reduce the impacts of plastics in the marine environment by raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution. Surfrider's R.A.P committee is advocating for a reduction of single-use plastics and the recycling of all plastics. As Volunteer Policy Coordinator I have worked with City Council Members, City Sub-Committees, environmental groups and local media to provide awareness of the environmental consequences of single-use plastics in our environment. I have assisted in developing ordinances and advocating for their successful passing in five cities. I co-founded the Surfrider Ocean Friendly Restaurant program that has successfully reduced the use of plastics in restaurants by working with local restaurant owners and managers to voluntarily change their business practice to reduce single-use plastics and provide an environmentally friendly approach. All programs and ordinances have resulted in significantly reducing plastic pollution. Show less
