      Student Mentor

Year One is a one-credit freshman seminar course designed to help first-year students navigate successfully the transition to college. The college offers a wide range of seminar topics from which students can choose each year, and each section will have similar learning goals and outcomes that are independent of the seminar topic. Each group of approximately fifteen students is led by a carefully selected faculty mentor and two upper-division student mentors well-trained and qualified for this responsibility. The course assists new students in dealing with the inevitable changes and rapid growth they will experience in their transition to college and promotes an increased sense of self-efficacy. In addition, Year One fosters new social connections with other first-year students and across the Lyon community.I was a student mentor for three semesters during which I mentored for Dr. Miller's Psych of Horror class and Dr. Becker's Asian Mythology class. I mentored freshmen college students by providing information and advice. I also facilitated the professor’s instruction for lectures and activities. I was also able to lead two lectures each semester. Show less

    • The APPLE Project Upward Bound

      Sept 2019 - Mar 2020
      Student Mentor

The APPLE (Accelerated Program of Personalized Learning and Enrichment) Project Upward Bound program works with eligible high school students who have the academic potential and the desire to succeed in postsecondary education. APPLE UB serves students from its target high schools in four counties: Batesville, Cedar Ridge, Midland, and Southside in Independence County; Newport and Tuckerman in Jackson County; Cave City in Sharp County; and Mountain View in Stone County. The goal of this program, which is funded through the U.S. Department of Education, has been to increase the number of high school graduates from disadvantaged backgrounds who enter college and persist to become college graduates.I tutored students in various academic subjects such as French, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology. Activities were collaboratively planned with a co-mentor. During sessions, I would facilitate group discussions, monitor behavior, and give advice to high school-aged students. Post sessions I completed paperwork and fill out evaluations for the session and for each student. This included identifying potentially problematic behaviors or academic weaknesses. Show less

    • NEW LEAF INSTITUTE PLLC

      Aug 2022 - Dec 2022
      Psychology Intern

New Leaf Institute is Dr Riley's clinic located in Owasso Oklahoma. Services provided are primarily bariatric pre-surgical weight loss psychological evaluations. Dr Riley also offers brief adult individual psychotherapy for pre- and post-bariatric surgical patients. The clinic also provides referrals to other providers for non-bariatric mental health services. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, Dr Riley offers an individually tailored approach, using evidence-based interventions, so that clients may attain the personal change and growth they are seeking. My role as an intern with New Leaf Institute was to facilitate referrals for Dr. Riley so that patients could obtain mental health resources in their area and in fields Dr. Riley was not specialized in. The internship was project-based with the goal to create a reference list of mental health providers in the state of Oklahoma. This reference list required coordination with Dr. Riley and the support staff at New Leaf Institute. The project involved me researching providers and recording information pertinent to patients being referred. Show less
