      PRINCIPAL

During 8 years, I worked with the teachers, parents and community to keep improving one of the highest achieving public schools in Chicago. Despite the mandates of over-testing (only mathematics and reading), we consistently made sure our students were receiving fine arts, physical, ethical and world language education, based on a whole child educational approach and the development of creativity and critical thinking through world social studies, debating and writing. In January 2015, the Illinois State Board of Education selected LaSalle Language Academy as the 2015 CPS Blue Ribbon Nominee. This award recognizes five years of exceptional achievement at the national level. On September 29, 2015, the U.S. Department of Education announced that LaSalle Language Academy was one of the 355 winning schools, out of 99,000 in the nation.I resigned from CPS in July 2015, before the end of my contract, as the direction taken by public education in America increasingly conflicted with my beliefs.
