    • DLG LEGAL SERVICES LIMITED

      Feb 2011 - Dec 2015
      Litigation Paralegal

The role entailed dealing with my own caseload of 150+ personal injury claims which have occurred as a result of: road traffic accidents; injuries at work (‘employers’ liability’) and; injuries in public places (‘public liability’). I am responsible for claims with a value of up to £25,000. I have working knowledge of the online Claims Portal for cases that fall within the MOJ pre-action protocol and I am therefore able to take a case from drafting the Claims Notification Form to settlement. I was required to issue proceedings against Defendant’s where liability is disputed, and as a result, I have extensive knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules, including Part 7 and Part 8 litigation, Part 36 offers and Part 45 costs. I also have experience in drafting documents for court such as claim forms, particulars of claim, witness statements and collating court bundles. As part of the litigation procedure I liaise with Counsel, as I am expected to brief barristers on the disputed matters and explain our stance on a claims’ valuation. This will include any relevant case law and excerpts from the Judicial College (JC) guidelines obtained from my research. Show less

      Jan 2016 - Sept 2016
      Litigation Executive

Responsibilities:Defending cases which had been issued against the firm’s clients. I dealt with litigated cases which primarily involved claims that had credit hire and personal injury as a result of road traffic accidents. The role involved: analysing documents in detail, report writing and drafting court documents from a Defendant perspective under Part 7/Part 8 of the CPR, including Defences, Counterclaims etc.

    • Browne Jacobson LLP

      Oct 2016 - Jan 2018
      Litigation Executive

Responsibilities:Deal with an average caseload of around 80 litigated personal injury claims which have been issued against Browne Jacobson’s clients – typically insurers. The role involved:• determining and recommending a strategy based on analysis of the client’s file;• investigating suspicions of fraud. This involved analysing existing intelligence received on claimants. In some cases, where I believed there to be spurious circumstances, I would propose further investigations be undertaken by our in-house intelligence team;• report writing, data analysis, gaining further knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules, drafting Court documents; and• communicating effectively with people from all levels, such as internally with associates/partners and externally with witnesses, Counsel and opposition solicitors. I was chosen to go on a 4-month secondment to Nottingham City Council - one of the firm’s largest client’s. I was tasked with advising the Council in dealing with property damage claims, specifically to aide them in reducing wasted costs and avoid litigation, where possible. Show less
