  The central thesis of my master's defense was generating a predictive computer model using BioWin 5.0 to investigate and recommend process modifications to optimize operation. At a 90 MGD treatment facility, I operated two continuous flow pilot plants to research strategies for the full-scale liquid facilities upgrade plan. The goal of this research was energy efficient biological nutrient removal. One pilot achieved EBPR and full nitrification at low-DO concentrations. The other pilot implemented a novel total nitrogen removal process, nitrite shunt, while achieving stable EBPR. Show less
