  Through the course of my 2 month internship I have tried to help the Centre achieve its research targets, while also extensively read and discussed the ethnic, political and economic history of my country, Cyprus. Importantly, my main task was to help the President of the Centre, Professor Andreas Theophanous, with his research which focused on the history of the island, including the Cyprus Problem.

  Last month I completed my internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, an experience which gave me my very first official work outlook in the world of international relations and foreign affairs. This experience has given me my first taste of how policy should be conducted, and how all sectors, from the economy to justice come to play a part when negotiating or drafting ground-breaking deals and uderstandings with foreign states.During my time at the MFA I worked under the C3 Department for Americas, Asia and Oceania, and was given the opportunity to renew the Department’s fact files on several states of interest and crisis-related regions. The above fact-file update occurred after careful research and consideration of the priorities set by the High Representative of the EU in 2024. Moreover I had the chance to co-operate with the Visa Waiver Programme Coordinator in the ministry, earning thus the opportunity to summarise and pitch documents during Cyprus’ promising efforts for inclusion in the programme. In advance, towards the end of my time it had been also made possible for me to aid in the preparation of the first and therefore historic strategic dialogue between the Republic of Cyprus and the USA. The aforementioned preparation involved document drafting, synthesis of various proposals from all ministries in the island, and even conduction of research concerning American interests in the area of South-East Europe and Mediterranean. #internationalrelations #grateful Show less
