I started in the applications development strategic outsourcing department doing work for Vodacom. It is mainly a high volume ETL / Data Warehouse environment for call data profiling to enable Vodacom to do business / trend analysis via Cognos. I inherited the CPS (Customer Profiling System) which was in the final stages of development. After implementation we started developing a single data flow model to merge the Customer Profiler and Call Data Profiler. This flexible model enabled us to easily add a new Products and Services Profiler. In September 2004 I moved to the Vodaview system which is a similar ETL / Data Warehouse system, but purely in the Prepaid environment. The system also had a detail data store with more than 7 billion records and provided real time subscriber call information (all calls for the last month) in less than 3 seconds on average for Customer Care (082111).In the beginning of 2007 I moved to the Operational Information System (OIS). This is an enterprise wholesale data warehouse system combining contract, prepaid, interconnect and subscriber information for various DW functions:• Trend / business analysis• Call patterns• Subscriber behaviour• Handset information• Various custom build second level data marts• Subscriber inactive delete informationThe system processed rated and unrated call data records in excess of 250 million per day which required fast processing and a well designed database. (The db size was over 4Tb) We have also development a set of operational controls / alerts to monitor latency, upstream problems and errors which we reported on twice a day. Show less

BAT has recently launched a Finance Transformation programme, the objectives of which are to increase the competency, efficiency and effectiveness of the BAT Group’s finance function as the BAT Group moves to an above-market operating model. One of the first projects identified in the Finance Transformation programme was the automation of inter-company invoice processing. A review of the current process in BAT, global best practice and potential solutions was conducted during Oct 2008. The findings highlighted that BAT, as a group, are significantly behind their peer organizations and went on to outline a solution that would allow for the automatic posting of vendors invoices into the customer company’s ledgers. The main objectives of this project are to: To define, agree and implement new inter-company business rules and policies for the BAT Group To define and agree new standard global manual processes Build and implement an automated system to post invoices directly into the target entities’ ledgers. This will ensure that inter-company accounts balance at Group level and will improve the control and accuracy of the inter-company postings. The project entails changes to 6 regional SAP instances for 176 end markets. Aug 2009 - Mar 2010
      Test Manager

In 2008 Vodacom went out on RFP for an enterprise data warehouse replacement for their current OIS (Operational Information System) in-house data warehouse system. Bytes were selected and shortly afterwards started with Phase 0 – Business Discovery. In June 2009 Phase 1 of 5 sub-projects started to include the following:• Core Layer development (Interconnect / Postpaid Usage Data and Master Subscriber Data) • Deliverable - Cross Functional Foundation and Analytical CapabilitiesI’ve joined in September as the end-to-end Test Manager to ensure the system works correctly from source to presentation layer. This includes successful running of the system, reconciled data, metadata, backup and recovery, housekeeping, performance, security and making sure we deliver all functionality as per the Statement of Work. The nature of a data warehouse is that you are dealing with high volume which requires a specific approach to testing. To further complicate matters, we have a multi-vendor, multi-technology project with resources based in different locations. Show less
