      Provided IT consultancy to British Telecom’s DWP contract and working as an integral member of a team overseeing the DWP network 24/7. Maintaining the availability of the network 24/7 was crucial as this would incur huge penalties if DWP offices had network outage for their data and phone lines. • 1st/2nd line monitoring of key strategic sites on the DWP Data network and providing additional cover to support HRMC, OPMIS and PPF incident handling • Used a number of different network monitoring tools e.g. Netcool/PND interface/nGenius• Reacted to major alarms that occurred across a number of different network platforms e.g a POPSITE going down and escalating to heads of department following a strict process• Monitored blackberry, VPN and Firewall traffic across the network• Security clearance to SC level• Worked with VPN and involved in troubleshooting network issues• Organising and delivering technical documentation• Organised knowledge transfer workshops to Operational Engineers Show less

      Providing IT consultancy to Newcastle College Group’s IT development division and working as a lead technical engineer for multiple projects with emphasis on cloud computing.• VMware Cluster and VDI distribution (Newcastle Data Centre): Europe’s second largest VDI distribution, responsible for capacity planning, design, implementation and documentation of virtual infrastructure for merged institutions. Cluster based on VMware ESX 3.5, storage structure based on EMC Clarion CX series SAN fabric. VDI distribution (900 Users) via VMware view - broker/security gateway architecture.• Rolling out consolidated site office servers (Nationwide) based on ESXi vSphere, the box comprised of multiple virtual machines/Firewall (stonegate) appliances.• Responsible for maintaining three active directory forests based on 2003/2008/2008 R2 domain controllers. • ISO 27001: Part of a team responsible for architectural analysis, design and implementation for endpoint data protection system. Entire structure was based on Safend protector management server suite with six thousand plus cross forest encrypted clients. Responsible for rolling out secure encrypted desktops as per client (DWP) requirement. Passed penetration testing.• VMware Cluster and VDI distribution (Sheffield Data Centre): designed and rolled out vSphere 4.0 enterprise clusters on dell blade M1000E series in conjunction with EMC Clarion CX 3 series SAN Fabric.       For over the last 4 years I have led a team of 5 staff members in a highly secure environment, working in a virtual (VMware 6.0) and physical environment (DELL), adhering to strict policies and procedures (ITIL and IS027001), delivering exceptional customer support/experience, incident/problem support and delivering end to end projects.• I have shown I can lead, develop, empower and ensure staff members are exceeding expectations by motivating then to achieve excellent results in stressful demanding situations.• My team was involved in delivering a variety of projects and one in particular to refresh the whole server, SAN and desktops devices at a cost of over £1m. The project as a whole cost over £2m. During the project I worked closely with the PM and suppliers negotiating an additional years support on the hardware. My team raised over 75 changes to replace and keep services operational on 90+ servers, 20 SAN’s and 120 desktops. The customer experienced no downtime in this project and gave brilliant feedback to the PM.• Within DLR we worked under a strict change process governed by ITIL and worked closely with the customer to seek approval of the internal and external changes. My team on average implemented over 300 changes a year, with less than 2% failure rate.• In the role I worked on technical refreshes/upgrades allowing me to keep abreast of technology and technology changes to the products/hardware my team supported.• While working a shift pattern I have been in situations where I have been troubleshooting P1-3 incidents, rolling out software updates, building servers and performing complex changes. Stakeholder engagement was key to ensure services transitioned without any service outages.• Change Management was challenging and had to be managed with precision, so not to affect project dates slipping past contractual milestones. Key engagement with testers, Release and Deployment Managers, SME’s meant the process ran smoothly.• The PM role was heavily involved in the delivery side of solutions while working on multiple projects with solution architects. At the early stages financial calculations had to be made to ensure budgets where submitted and approved.
