  CooP-Africa is an NGO that improves the acces to bicycles for people in Africa. I designed a bicycle and developed a production plan to produce 1000 bicycle frames a year in Uganda and Kenya. The first production is up and running, the second is being build. I graduated with an 8.5.

  Working as a product engineer, I couldn't ignore the urge to change the way we are producing and consuming products. I experienced that it is very difficult to make 'sustainable design decisions', 1. our society is not (yet) used to it and2. it is hard to oversee, there are many factors that influence the ecological footprint of a product. To be able to make those decisions as wise as possible, and answer the growing demand of clients for 'future proof' product design, I specialized in circular product design. I learned to change the way we were approaching design problems: to prioritize every single step of the life cycle of a product, including end-of-life.I used this knowledge to support our own product engineers, to be able to take these design considerations in the beginning of the design process.   I always had a great love for nature, especially for trees and forests. This idea started in 2019 when I was looking for a birthday presents for some friends. You know the feeling that you really want to give something original but are afraid it will be useless or they allready have it?More and more people are conscious about how we are overconsuming this planet. They also know that 'giving' and experiences make you happier than owning stuff. So they ask for experiences or money for charity when they throw a party. This present combines 2 things: it makes you feel good because you give money to a charity, and you have a great and personal memory to hang on the wall: a print of your favorite tree. Show less
