Maintenance Manager – 80” Pickle Line

      • Gained the trust and confidence of 20+ highly experienced Union millwrights and motor inspectors, allowing for effective personnel management as a recent college graduate.• Kept open door policy to allow for increased communication with Union maintenance personnel and solicited advice/knowledge from more experience employees regarding equipment operation and predictive maintenance issues.• Timely completion of all scheduled maintenance projects through detail oriented scope planning of all jobs, including organization of intelligent time estimation, parts, labor, budget/cost, bill of materials, etc.• No recorded safety issues or injuries for any organized work, breakdown or planned.• Responded reliably and consistently to all last-minute equipment breakdown notifications; position required 24/7 availability including weekends (less scheduled vacation time). • Enhancing new product development across product platforms via competitive benchmarking, reliability testing and product validation per internal requirements and FMVSS regulations.• Design / set-up of fixtures and test articles necessary to conduct testing• Contributed to FMVSS 222 Knee Impact bus seat foam recall in summer 2013 by preparing and operating test equipment, as well as aiding in creation of and testing field fix concepts under constrained circumstances. The final field fix was applied to approximately 22,000 school buses.• Prevented Navistar from incurring heavy financial losses and additional negative publicity from a second potential compliance audit recall by demonstrating to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that their push test fixture was yielding false failures due to the equipment not meeting stiffness specifications per FMVSS 222. • Extensive use of formal report writing to communicate test results• Frequently asked to review and edit formal test reports from co-workers.• Active communication with test requestors (design engineers) to understand project scope and create timing/cost estimates in an effort to manage priorities and scheduling.• Consistently evaluating opportunities for continuous improvement. Improved accuracy of FMVSS 222 Push testing system by utilizing MTS actuators and programming to allow for computers to run the test and reduce the chances of human error. Also increased confidence in Navistar’s internal bus seat impact testing abilities by sourcing construction / delivery for a new FMVSS 222 Impact test fixture which is identical to that used by the NHTSA to conduct compliance audits in 2013.• Improving knowledge retention and streamlining test group operation by creating technical work instructions/procedures for every type of assigned test, such that any engineer with no experience would be able to conduct similar testing. Show less 16 month rotation program designed to give new hires a better understanding of engine business operation and functions. • Reliability and Quality: - Aided efforts to obtain root cause of failures in electrical harnesses and Aftertreament systems of the V152 engines by compiling warranty data to determine any trends in failures. Presented findings of trends and future associated costs to engineers and management at the Best in Class meeting to help with deciding priorities.- Saved time and money on a study of field returned MAP sensors by creating a test apparatus using parts available on-hand and working with appropriate technicians, instead of sending out parts for evaluation at the supplier.• Calibration – Performance:- Streamlined test cell operations by monitoring all data in Engine Health Check spreadsheet. This improved data collection and reduced down time in test cells by aiding in quick identification of drifts in equipment function.- Took initiative to improve functionality of Health Check spreadsheet by fixing errors when found.• Cooling Systems SMT:- Assisted in warranty investigation at EGR supplier by conducting an EGRc Calibration Comparison to determine whether current calibration specs were in line with previously defined functional objectives for the cooler.- Performed packaging studies, tolerance stack-ups and thread engagement studies to assist Cooling System engineers with designing components to improve engine operation and performance.• Engine Performance and System Integration:- Started in the group with no prior experience in GT-Power simulations. Within a month, was supporting a high profile program to convert Navistar’s EGR-only strategy to SCR + EGR on the 13L family of engines.- Evaluated potential design points under supervision and submitted hardware suggestions through performance of parametric sweep simulations to analyze system interactions at various engine loads and environmental conditions.
