  Molecular biology research assistant

  - Published co-author of the paper "MAPK-15 is a ciliary protein required for PKD-2 localization and male mating behavior in Caenorhabditis elegans"- Successfully cloned the C-Isoform of MAP-15, and characterized the ciliary localization along with the phenotypic defects cause by loss of cilia.- Used whole genome-comparisons to determine predicted genes that encode for ciliary proteins. I further curated these enriched gene lists to focus on fifteen specific genes to identify whether they have any ciliary function using high throughput PCR and the restriction enzyme ligation method.   - As an executive board member, I oversaw the day to day operations of over 40 staff members along with all financial aspects including advertising, payroll, and other expenditures. - Successfully negotiated a proposal to the student government finance committee which was then voted on by the student body, to raise The Lawrentian’s operating budget to $180,000 over four years.

  Our world-underwater scholarship society dr. lee h. somers aaus scientific diving intern.

  - Completed the 100-hour American Academy of Underwater Science scientific diving program at the University of Maine. - Had hands-on scientific dive research experience at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences diving on kelp forests in the Gulf of Maine. We surveyed hundreds of nautical miles determining the species composition, percent cover, and estimated biomass of not only kelps but other red, green and brown algae species.

  - Designed environmental DNA primers for barcoding specific red and brown algae species. I obtained DNA sequences through GenBank, found conserved DNA sequences in a shared algal gene, and validated these primers using TA cloning methods before making Illumina barcodes.- Continued scientific dive research -- tagged and measured kelp growth rates and beginning to deploy urchin settlement collectors throughout the region. - Other tasks include: Coded in R-studio, building and conducted sea urchin herbivory assays, and other laboratory oriented tasks.   Young explorers program

  - The Young Explorers Program of Adventure Canada and The Explorers Club- I circumnavigated Ireland testing new molecular tools and protocols for detecting Northern Atlantic kelp and brown algae species using environmental DNA collection methods. I have developed the molecular tools in partnership with scientists Dr. Doug Rasher and Dr. Peter Countway at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences.
