      Living Learning Community Peer Leader

Peer Leader for the China 2+2 Program, which involved being a mentor for international students from China. Anxiety and loneliness for the students were reduced by organizing weekly events to help adjust them to Canadian culture. In addition, weekly conversation groups were directed to promote confidence in English communication. This resulted in being distinguished by the students, especially for providing outstanding care and conducting weekly one-on-one visits.

Conducted 28-day nickel and copper toxicity tests on two different clades in the Hyalella azteca cryptic species complex. Water and tissue metal concentrations were measured using Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, and then statistically analyzed to determine whether the two clades exhibited differing metal sensitivity when assessing mortality, bioaccumulation, and growth. Concluded that one clade was significantly more tolerant to metal toxicity when assessing mortality and bioaccumulation. Responsibilities included animal culturing, recording weekly juvenile mortality, refreshing media and analyzing water quality, and species delineation by DNA sequencing.
