    • East Carolina University

      Aug 2010 - May 2011
      Teaching Instructor

I gained valuable communication and leadership experience through teaching two introductory courses of biological anthropology, a human skeletal analysis lab, and an introduction to statistics course. I also developed great organization skills due to my daily responsibilities, which included course lecture preparation, lectures of course material, and creating and grading exams, lab and student writing assignments.

    • NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources

      Apr 2012 - Jun 2012
      GIS Intern

I gained firsthand experience in the collection of field data. Data collection was performed using a hand-held GPS unit and included the location and identification of non-native invasive plant species within the park. This information was then used to determine case-by-case treatment strategies for targeted areas of invasive activity. I also learned how to plan, export to a GPS data collection unit, and execute time-efficient field surveys using several pertinent data sets in the park's geodatabase. Finally, I developed a customized grid-based survey plan for monitoring the presence and spatial extent of aquatic invasive plant species in the park's lakes. Show less

    • Alamance County Government, NC

      May 2012 - Aug 2012
      GIS Intern

I spent the summer developing Python scripts and automated work flows using ArcGIS ModelBuilder for the division staff in the 911-Emergency and Addressing department. Specifically, I used basic statistical analysis and programming to perform QA/QC testing of the department's addressing and centerline (street) databases in an effort to increase dispatch efficiency and reduce emergency response time. I also learned how the GIS division assigns addressing information to county residents, digitally imports parcel boundary data from hard copy documents and collects centerline data using real-time GPS data collection techniques. • North Carolina State University

      May 2012 - May 2013

Participated in a year-long, multi-agency project involving the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, and N.C. State. The project's primary goals include an inventory of existing hydrologic modeling efforts in the Southeast region; an evaluation and performance comparison of participating hydrologic models in predicting observed stream flows; a demonstration of the feasibility of using regional and local scale models to identify unique areas of concern and understand fine scale hydrologic dynamics for climate change assessment, respectively; and, finally, synthesizing the work on developing flow-ecology relationships in the region. Show less I was responsible for creating a geospatial fire atlas for the National Park Service. This project involved editing existing geospatial data, compiling multiple geospatial data layers into a single data set, comparison of multiple geospatial data sets and incorporation of quality assured geospatial data into a national geodatabase. Upon project completion, I developed a Standard Operating Procedure document outlining the steps needed to perform these tasks for distribution to park-level GIS technicians. Show less

      GIS Intern

Primary duties include assisting the GIS Manager in developing and maintaining extensive GIS databases and producing maps and graphics to support various planning functions. The focus of the internship involves performing a “Return on Investment Study” for the 12 county Piedmont Triad Region. As such, I will be responsible for gathering tax parcel data and analyzing assessed tax value for several study areas in the Region. Results will be presented as a final report and presentation to the council and participating local governments. Show less

    • Person County Government

      Apr 2013 - Oct 2013
      GIS Technician

I was hired to fulfill current technician duties such as custom cartographic products as needed by other departments and customers of the County government, mapping tax parcel changes in the GIS system based on professional survey documents and maintaining data used for the County's GIS website. Additionally, I have taken it upon myself to increase the department's service offerings (customized web applications, overhaul of addressing ordinance), update the department's database management system (to ArcSDE/MSSQL Server Express) and provide sophisticated data analysis expertise to customers of the County using automated Python routines and statistical analysis. • City of Danville

      Oct 2013 - Aug 2015
      GIS Programmer/Analyst

Day-to-day duties include maintaining and advancing scripted workflows (Python and SQL), processing GIS data requests, enterprise database design and administration, and supporting city GIS users via the city IT help system.I also took it upon myself to research and develop new applications and analysis tools to enhance city services and expose the capabilities of GIS to city employees and the public. For example, through a partnership with the city police department, I wrote and deployed an award winning, publicly available, web application that maps citywide crime. Show less

    • NC Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization

      Aug 2015 - now
      Geographic Information Systems Manager

I am responsible for managing the MPO’s geospatial data and overseeing spatial analysis in support of regional transportation planning activities. Examples of these activities include travel forecasting, socioeconomic data development and forecasting, traffic and transit analysis, and project prioritization. I act as lead staff on a variety of geospatial initiatives such as data visualization, integration, collection and distribution. I also focus on building relationships with individuals within the organization who may not be aware of the benefits of having GIS support. Accomplishments include design and development of an organization-wide integrated project planning database, automated data processing routines, custom map reporting templates, and growing the organization's online presence through semi-custom ArcGIS Online web applications.
