    • The Daily Californian

      Feb 2020 - May 2022

As the head sports editor for Fall 2021, I covered and reported on various Cal Division 1 sports teams on campus for the university and city of Berkeley. Under my editorship, I successfully created The Daily Cal sports department's first-ever Instagram page (@dailycalsports) with 800 followers and counting, expanded the department's in-person coverage of sports to professional leagues for the first time (NFL, San Jose Sharks, San Jose Earthquakes, Golden State Warriors, etc.), created new "intradepartmental positions" to efficiently delegate work for different projects (social media manager, podcast producer, social chair, etc.), oversaw the creation of the department's first-ever newsletter (From the Sports Desk), and integrated Instagram "video reels" and tweets into online articles. I was responsible for hiring deputy sports editors as well as new sports staffers. I also assigned beats and delegated articles for a department of over 30 staffers to write. Every week, I led department meetings, edited and WordPressed staff writers' articles, and place articles during production nights via Adobe InDesign. I attended daily preliminary meetings to pitch article ideas, led writing workshops with new staffers, and organized livehawking events as well as interdepartmental socials. Averaging a published article once per week, I also wrote previews, recaps, breaking news pieces, and blog posts. I have covered professional sports teams such as the San Jose Sharks, San Jose Earthquakes, and Angel City FC as well as events including the 2022 NFL Draft, 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, 2022 NFL Pro Bowl. I have also been a guest for the Daily Cal's podcast series: One Golden Moment. An example of my work featured ABC7 LA's sports anchor Rob Fukuzaki and his inspirational journey while rising through the ranks as an Asian American in the TV industry. Show less
