Zhilam Hostel, meaning “the path of peace,” was not only financially profitable, but also achieved the intended dream of being socially profitable. Because of a passion for social entrepreneurship, this hostel was the first foreign owned enterprise in a very physically and politically challenging area where little to no English was spoken. Establishing it and developing it required overcoming unseen and unsurmountable obstacles every year. I took the road less travelled, to gain experience and relationships over money and security, and having now sold the business, I have walked away with a diverse form of wealth and a deep satisfaction at what my life & work has brought into existence.
