  Our study aims to investigate and analyze genomic interaction via QTL mapping using yeast (S. cerevisiae) as a model organism, as the baker's yeast has proven to be an effective model for dissecting complex traits using synthetic biology. Previous analysis of QTL mapping has indicated ample epigenetic interaction in determining yeast complex traits, yet the specificity of correlating genes to traits is often blurred as proximal genes are usually associated with the trait under analysis. By pairing high-throughput techniques with the automated capabilities of the Hamilton Microlab Star, this project efficiently prepares three different yeast strains; American, European, and Japanese, for sequencing. Causal genetic variants can thereby be determined through eliminating uncertainty among closely associated genes that are paired with desired complex traits by cross-comparing strains.Visit the lab website at https://annb-lab.github.io/ Show less

  This highly interactive program involved hands-on training and research in the pharmacology of GPCRs with intensive modules on: computational methods; cellular and molecular methods; biophysical techniques; the pharmaceutical industry; and innovation and entrepreneurship, all led by distinguished U of T faculty and industry experts from within the GTA pharma and biotech ecosphere.GPCR targeting drugs represent the core of modern medicine and are used for treating cancer, cardiac dysfunction, diabetes, obesity, inflammation, asthma, pain, neuropsychiatric disorders, and more.
