Achievements: (A) Developing the farm into a profitable business unit.• There are at present 25 hectares under vines.• In 1998 a VERITAS Double Gold was awarded for the wine produced from our Chardonnay grapes. This achievement had a huge impact on the demand for our grapes and subsequent value of the harvest.• There are 7 hectares of olives.• Extraneous economic activities- including the rental of property, buildings and implements and livestock.(B) Implementation and management of administrative systems.• A stand-alone administrative system of spread sheets for the monitoring and control of expenses.• Budgeting done on an annual basis for all categories of expenses and monitored on a monthly basis.• Monthly management reports submitted to the directorate.• All relevant statutory returns completed.• Cash flow projections compiled on a monthly basis and monitored daily.• Asset-control and management of machinery formed an integral part of daily operations.• Projects managed via predetermined guidelines and monitored in detail. In addition to farming, these included: construction (buildings, drainage, reservoirs and roads); landscaping; indigenous re-vegetation of ecologically disturbed areas and various external contracts.• Authorized signatory to cheques and all relevant documents.• Founding member of the joint venture which brought about the development of Durbanville Hills Wine Cellar.• All relevant statutory imperatives such as UIF, union contributions, pensions etc. were completed and all the provisions of the BCE act were complied with.• Great importance was attached to the development of the labourers on an educational and social level in addition to improving their employment skills. To design and implement new management strategies relating to administration, labour, assets and viticulture procedures,ii. to focus solely on the production of quality grapes,iii. to ensure optimum prices for the produce, andiv. to establish a viable and stable production unit.I subsequently managed to achieve all the set goals and more.
