    • Groupe Managem

      Jun 2006 - Sept 2006
      Trainee Mining Engineer

Mining engineering in Managem's Draa Sfar and Bou-Azzer operations. Classical underground operations observation & timing. Development work for a mining method in thin veins. The Bou Azzer deposits are small mines with limited mechanical activity; this was a one-of-a-kind mining experience.

    • MINES ParisTech

      Nov 2006 - Jun 2007
      Research Assistant

MSc. Thesis work.Subject : Assessing mid- and long-term behavior of an underground waste disposal in salt caverns.- Experimental program conduction and results analysis to assess sedimentation and mechanical properties of waste slurries- Simplified finite elements analysis of the slurry-filled cavern with Mines ParisTech software (VIPLEF2D) - assessed displacements, peak principal and deviatoric stresses + impact of presence of slurries on ground subsidence vs. standard brine-filled scenario. • Orano

      Nov 2007 - Jan 2013

Provides technical and economical studies on conventional and non-conventional mining projects / operations:- Open pit : Productivity calculations, cost estimates, studies for long term mine planning. Optimization of mining processes e.g. blasting. Technical assistance in mining equipment selection.- In Situ Recovery: Development work on a long term mining sequence tool & assistance to the mine site for long term planning of an in situ leaching operation.- Management experience: trained a MSc. student on mining process simulation work with Rockwell's Arena software. Show less Doctoral thesis: Search for a hole-by-hole fragmentation prediction method in application to open pit blasts.- Experimental research. Set up and carried out a full-scale test program comprising 32 experiments made during 12 experimental blast rounds, with assistance of local mine teams (mine site: SOMAÏR, Niger). Followed up ordering and shipping all of the instrumentation to the remote mine site. Analysed and discussed corresponding results in the frame of the thesis work.Acquired practical knowledge of blasting practices and instrumentation. Got certified with an Austrian Shotfirers' License and learnt most of the English & German blasting vocabulary. Got solid experience in safely driving light vehicles in an open pit mining environment. Experienced a wholly different cultural context by working both with local teams and expatriates - spent a total of 7 months in the Arlit area on the mine site.- Numerical research: Used a strain rate-dependent, orthotropic damage behavior law to simulate explosive shock waves propagation in a quasi-brittle material at a reduced scale. Drew parallels between experimental and numerical findings.Acquired solid competence in setting up and running basic and advanced FEA models. Developed the ability to work with raw data sets (read, modify, run calculations or format modifications). Learnt advanced plotting techniques. May read and interpret new programming languages and concepts quickly. Show less
