The mission of the doctoral program in Medical Family Therapy (MedFT) is to advance students learning in the areas of research, theory, clinical practice, leadership, supervision, and teaching in order to prepare and qualify them to pursue employment as researchers, educators, administrators, and/or clinicians in the field of medical family therapy. Our doctoral students conduct research, teach, and supervise from a relational and systemic perspective through the incorporation of a biopsychosocial-spiritual approach. The aim is to widen the knowledge base in healthcare to include biomedical, psychosocial, and family data in the collaborative education, treatment, research, and theoretical understanding of medical and mental health issues. Intern

As an intern at Anointed Mental Health I had the opportunity to get acquainted with the marriage and family field. I observed many therapy sessions, meetings with DSS, and participated in business relations with Asceracare Hospice in order to establish a grief counseling program. We meet with clients who were homeless, who needed anger management, and those who simply needed someone to talk with.We also spent every afternoon working with students from local schools. We provided them with a fun, stable, friendly environment in which they could open up and share anything that they needed to share. As a final project for my internship I put together a Family Fun Day at River Park North, a local park in Greenville. We invited all of the families that were involved with Anointed Mental Health to join us for a day filled with good food, fun games, and friendly people. The purpose of this day was not only to provide a fun day for these families, but also to observe their unique interactions as a whole family unit. Show less
