Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology
  • Experience

    • Concordia University

      Sept 2015 - Dec 2022

Led the development and execution of several projects focused on in vivo, high-throughput genetic engineering of a variety of host species for small molecule production.Project 1:• Established an NGS pipeline for effective, non-rational, whole genome engineering of S. cerevisiae and implemented a high-throughput genome engineering strategy to test modifications combinatorially.• Used R and bioinformatic tools for the analysis and visualization of NGSresults.Project 2:• Led an industrial collaboration to develop a proprietary and novel genetic engineering toolkit for the optimization of polyunsaturated fatty acid synthesis in a marine fungoid protist.• Developed skills in working with large data sets, including transcriptome and genome sequencing data, and existing bioinformatics databases for establishing the genetic toolkit. Show less • Successfully developed a novel biosynthetic platform to produce monoterpene indole alkaloid (MIA) precursors in S. cerevisiae.• Developed and validated robust, high-throughput, and automated workflows for multiplexed CRISPR-Cas9 based modifications in S. cerevisiae using Concordia University's state of the art Biofoundry (QPix, Echo, Biomek).• Executed combinatorial biosynthetic pathway optimization to optimize carbon flux into heterologous MIA pathway.• Engineered strain achieved highest demonstrated titers of Nepetalactone from sugar in S. cerevisiae.• Optimization and development of GC-MS and UHPLC-MS/MS (qTOF) analytical methods for a wide range of small molecules.
