  In my first educational role, I had the opportunity to stretch into new disciplines while refining many others. That included:- Teaching middle and high school brass at 3 campuses- Returning a fledgling and impoverished middle school program to a high-performing expectation. Within a year, we were seating our students at the top of the all-region band. As well, the Symphonic Band began making consistent superior ratings in concert contests.- Successfully teach a middle school orchestra class - new experience!- Manage and teach a nascent color guard program. In three years, we grew from 7 students (in a HS of 1800) to 38 with a JV and Varsity squad.- Gain my first experience with writing a substantial amount of curriculum (grades 6-12, 1-year cycle)- Maintain two budgets- Consistently teaching 12+ hours of private lessons per week- Develop an internal style guide for the marching band Show less

  In a middle school of grades 7-8 and a population of 500, a wind band of only 10 students existed.Through hard work, compassion, and expertise, I managed to grow that program to 130 students performing at a very high level. To keep the whole program running, I had to:-develop and maintain curriculum-work daily on balancing and forecasting our budgetary needs-maintain transparent, inclusive, and authentic relationships with students, families, and colleagues-schedule dozens of events, rehearsals, and fundraisers with tight deadlines-most importantly: care about each student and treat them as the person they want to be become.
