      Started work for Ohio Department of Youth Services at Mohican Juvenile Corrections Facility, after three years of employment, I had the opportunity for additional off site training and became a certified Therapeutic Community Specialist. Located here was the departments only Therapeutic Community (TC). One of two staff responsible for the direct care, custody, and control of 42 youth in an open bay setting, charged with mentoring youth during their last 6-12 months in DYS, to right living, and becoming a productive member of their community. Upon the closure of MoJCF, I was displaced to Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility (IRJCF) in Massillon, Ohio to a 40 closed cell dorm, medium-close security classified facility. As a Veterans Service Commissioner, I serve as the appointed representative for the Veterans of Foreign Wars on the board of the Washington County Veterans Service Commissioners that is in charge the oversite, command and control of the office. SPC Smith’s calmness under extreme pressure during mass casualty situations helped regain control of the Ganci complex of the Baghdad Central Correctional Facility.
