  SCPOR Saskatchewan Centre for patient-oriented Research This study cultivates patient-oriented (POR) research in Sask. as it has been co-created with our Patient and Family Advisors(PFAs) from day one. Having previously worked as a paramedic, the researchers had witnessed barriers newcomers face in receivingculturally competent care that embraces diverse cultural and religious beliefs. This led researchers to reach out to newcomers toCanada residing in Saskatchewan that were interested in an opportunity to be more involved in their healthcare. Whenmeeting with potential PFAs, the team began by explaining what POR was and asked them to share their stories/ experiences withme. Each PFA highlighted their difficulties in navigating and understanding the healthcare system upon arriving in Canada.After taking some time to reflect on PFA experiences, explore relevant literature and further establish our research team toinclude healthcare providers and change-makers, we met as a team to develop our research question. This was followed byindividual member-checking with our PFAs to ensure that their priorities were captured appropriately. That being said, theprincipal inquiry question of this study is: “How can Saskatchewan eliminate barriers and support the needs of individualsmoving to Saskatchewan from another country in accessing and navigating the healthcare system, ensuring equitable healthstandards for marginalized populations?”.
