  Shadowing Physicians

  Shadow multiple medical professionals including an orthopedic surgeon, two family medicine doctors, and a nurse. Observe physicians in action, study the ways they practice, develop experience, and provide assistance as required. Daily practices include entering examination rooms, recording the patient's primary complaint, taking the patient's height, weight, and temperature, and supporting the doctor as they perform a standard check-up and/or administer vaccinations.

  National Student Leadership Conference

  Took on the role of a physician at the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) on Medicine and Health Care which included developing surgical techniques, working with clinical teams through multi day simulations to diagnose and treat patients, and engaging in peer debate on public health issues.Gained hands-on knowledge essential in a career in medicine, including administering sutures and vaccines, surgical knot tying, and understanding of basic anatomy through dissections.Completed a project at the program's conclusion that sought to raise awareness and perspective on a medical issue. Acquired important leadership skills through a curriculum that teaches abilities applicable to all facets of life. Show less
