The Interim Chancellor is responsible for all aspects of campus leadership, program quality and operations, including six colleges, a graduate studies program, two degree-granting institutes, the professional staff and faculty of more than 6,000, and 4,500 health professions and graduate students. UNMC researchers generate more than $200 million in research expenditures annually. Combined, UNMC and its primary clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine, have more than 14,500 employees and an operating budget of more than $3.5 billion. The combined annual economic impact of the “500-mile campus” academic health center with 37 Centers of Excellence exceeds $6.4 billion. As Dr. Davies assumes this role, he will continue the great legacy of former Chancellors Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and Harold M. Maurer, MD, in providing world-class education, pushing the boundaries of medical research, and offering extraordinary patient care. Show less The Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs provides direct oversight over all the colleges and health sciences library. During his tenure, Dr. Davies oversaw numerous initiatives and helped grow UNMC's rural health programs, pipeline programs, community outreach and faculty development. Under his leadership, UNMC’s overall student enrollment has grown every year with multiple new professional degree programs added. Additionally, Dr. Davies accelerated the growth of the university's nationally funded institutional training grants from one to eight awards, totaling more than $9 million in additional funding to support graduate biomedical research training and education; nationally funded graduate student awards also grew to almost 90 during his tenure, compared to less than 20 in the 12 years before him. Show less UNMC Graduate Studies' mission is to be the best place in the nation for training graduate students through exceptional health science educational and research programs, faculty mentoring and professional skills development. As Dean, Dr. Davies implemented key programs focused on student development and wellness and has grown faculty as mentors and leaders. Under his leadership, Graduate Studies increased to 10 doctoral programs, 12 master's programs, 14 specializations in two interdisciplinary umbrella programs, and four certificate programs. Additionally, the graduate student population has grown from 442 in 2012 to 720 in 2023, a 62% increase and the largest growth of any training program at the university during the same period.
