  The VALE Moatize Coal Mine in Tete Mozambique is said to be the largest coal mining operation on the African continent. The Expansion of the existing mine(Phase I, 2010), known as Moatize Coal Expansion Project or "Phase II" with estimated project value of 290 Million USD kicked off in April 2014 and is now currently drawing to a completion.The project included the establishment of a Coal Processing and Handling Plant (12 000 tons of steel), including the establishment of a Daily Maintenance Workshop, Heavy Duty Vehicle Workshop, Two Stackers, Two Reclaimers, Crushers, a Train Load-Out Station, Conveyors and Transfer Towers. My employer Kentz, the main contractor on the project had a maximum workforce of approximately 4000 workers including skilled expat labour. The safety team comprised of approximately 100 members.Kentz successfully reached a 10 Million LTIF manhours milestone in November 2015 with minimal and minor incidents in the projects health and safety statistics.
