      Grocery Clerk

I have 7 years of experience across multiple departments within the store, primarily a front-end utility clerk and a meat department clerk, doing the latter full time for approximately one year. My time as a utility clerk taught me the importance of planning, multitasking, and staying calm in stressful situations. Oftentimes utility clerks are the first people called for customer service, are the most likely employees customers are to find throughout the store to assist them, and the only clerks who bag groceries and assist customers to their vehicles. As the forefront of customer service I consistently keep customers needs a priority, setting aside whatever task I am previously assigned to then returning to said task in a timely manner so as to not disrupt the flow of the store. As a clerk in the meat department I was taught a level of teamwork and comradery that was not nearly as fostered as working as a utility clerk. The department is mostly run by 3 people, making every task more important to the functioning of the department in comparison to the duties required of utility clerks. The amplification of responsibility instilled a level of accountability, as one person’s slack could translate to multiple days’ worth of extra work. I work primarily as the closing clerk, whose main responsibilities include cleaning up the shop, performing the last counter filling of the day, and finishing whatever tasks may be left over from earlier in the day. As such I learned to prioritize tasks and plan my shift out by several hours in order to complete the closing in time and sufficiently prepare the department for the next day. At the present time I have the second longest tenure of clerks in the department behind only the head department clerk. Show less

Worked as an ETC (Extending The Classroom) tutor for my entire department, covering the symbolic logic class of the philosophy department. Duties included meeting with my specified professor once per week to develop lesson plans for my sessions and updates on my regular tutees. I also attended every class of this particular class to stay updated on their progress through the material. Additionally, I provided tutoring services for all classes in the philosophy department, spanning 6 classes total. Duties included homework help, paper analysis and editing, as well as general discussion of their class's materials to promote tutee comprehension and retention. Show less
