  A virtual international honors experience, exclusive for honors students accepted into Pitt Business and the University Honors College, provides an early global experience prior to the start of a student’s first semester on campus. The program introduces students to the faculty, staff, and student organizations of Pitt Business, while providing the opportunity to engage in a two-week consulting project with an international organization based in London. Participants experience globalization first-hand through industry-specific virtual company tours, interaction with executives, and academic lectures that provide cultural and political perspective to inform the consulting project. During the 2021 program, students worked with the Southwark Pensioners’ Centre (SPC), a small 30-year-old charity that supports older people, aged 50+, to enjoy healthier, independent, and more active lives, connect with each other and their communities. Under the overall direction of the SPC director, students were divided into three consulting teams focusing on three specific areas of opportunity: marketing and social media development, volunteer engagement, and donor enhancement. Using secondary research and competitor comparisons, students created a SWAT analysis of the opportunity areas of SPC and presented best practice recommendations to leadership and board members. SPC plans to incorporate the student recommendations in their short-term planning. Show less
