  • About me

I have various tools at my disposal to analyze information and determine what may be happening. But I believe that the human dimension is the main tool to define how to move forward.

Process and Detailed design of water & wastewater treatment plants

    • Black & Veatch

      Jan 2007 - Jul 2010

Water and wastewater solids thickening, dewatering and management. Anaerobic Digestion, solar dryers, aerobic digestion and renewable energy aspects of biogas generation. Financial analysis of renewable energy benefits with pro forma. Developed various studies for treatment and technology alternatives for anaerobic digestion and biosolids treatment for optimizing green energy generation. Detailed design of the Richmond Advanced Recycle Expansion (RARE) water project for EBMUD using secondary effluent and running it through microfiltration and reverse osmosis membranes. The product water was to have a TDS of <15 mg/l to be used in the low-pressure boilers at Chevron's Richmond Refinery. Project had a capacity of 3.5 mgd 13.2 m3/d) and a CAPEX of USD 40 Million

      Manager of Engineering

Management of all company construction projects, cost projections for full-scale facilities, process optimization, equipment selection, technology development, process (pretreatment and fermenation) scale-up and strategic analysis for the company. Managed the design, procurement and construction of a USD 2.1 Million CM@risk pilot plant in Puerto Montt, Chile. Managed a team of six people working in four continents, resulting in a project delivered in time and under budget. Mechanical equipment procured and installed included a large diesel generator able to provide power for the entire plant, plus several services (compressed air, vacuum, chilled glycol, RO, low pressure steam) and a suite of pretreatment equipment (mills, grinder pumps), plus a fermentation reactor with a seed train. • Aurora Algae, Inc

      Oct 2012 - May 2014
      Process Engineer

Build, maintain and update the techno-economic model consisting from seawater intake filtration to microalgae biomass harvesting. Use the to aid more than a dozen internal designs for improvements and new facilities. Managed and led various design efforts and issued all written internal documents for the design (Basis of Design, water, mass and chemical balances). Tasked with developing solutions for some of the more challenging technical issues affecting the growth ponds, carrying out research on vendors, basic science and technologies to issue reports and presentations to management. Managed projects over a 15-hour difference by building strong relationships with the team in Australia. Show less

    • Self Employed

      Sept 2014 - Jul 2019
      Technical Researcher

As a personal project, built a model focusing on various options for Dubai to reach partial decarbonization using available public data, and basing the process on tried and true technologies for power generation and drinking water production from seawater with significant cost and operation advantages vs. the current methods being used. Drafted all results in a presentation which was shared with members of the technical advisory board to the Managing Director of DEWA. The aim was to access real operational data from the municipality to solidify the results and build a financial model for a realistic path forward for future execution. There was no interest in the results, as an avoidance to alter current conditions from all involved parties (management, operations and technical consultants) led to a future based on status quo.Studied and recommended the use of solar thermal systems as a means of producing municipal chilled water systems or feeding an organic Rankine cycle, knowing that in summer 80% of peak power production in Dubai is used for cooling habitable spaces. Again, little or no interest was found for novel and renewable technologies. Show less
