SCI’s American Merchant Marine Oral History Project (AMMOHP), a new initiative launched by SCI’s Archives department, seeks to document the history and experiences of the merchant marine by conducting oral history interviews with retired or veteran mariners and personalities from U.S. maritime history. To date, we have recorded interviews with seventeen mariners and port workers, including twelve veterans of World War II. Additionally, a newly designed digital portal will be launched in which clips from interviews will be “tagged” alongside photographs and digital artifacts to create an interactive memory repository.Click here to explore the project and hear the stories of the merchant marine. We are currently looking for partner institutions or individuals who are interested in recording interviews or otherwise volunteering their time and expertise in support of the project. If you are interested, please contact SCI Archivist Johnathan Thayer at jthayer@seamenschurch.org or 917 864 1993. Show less
