    • The Africa Rice Center (Formerly WARDA)

      Jan 1996 - Jan 2000
      Research Associate (Virology/ Phytopathology)

      1. Screening of rice varieties for resistance against rice yellow mottle virus (RYMV) and rice blast diseases for ultimate farmers’ use.2. Production of polyclonal antibodies to various strains of RYMV isolated from different locations in five West African countries (Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic). 3. Developed Enzyme Linked Immonosorbent Assays (ELISA) to identify virus strains and to establish the existence of isolate serological and pathological variability between different virus strains. This led to the generation of Molecular and serological Cartographic map of RYMV in West Africa.4. Developed molecular bioassay methods for diagnosis of rice fungal diseases and genetic classification and mapping of different isolates using PCR, Southern blot and other gamut of Molecular Biology.5. Participated actively (with the Scientist) in the program planning and execution of work planning and “Task force” meetings6. Planned, Organized and Conducted Workshops and Trained National Scientists and WARDA collaborators in serological and molecular diagnostic methods of viral and fungal identification and classification.7. Resource person for two-week training in “Diagnosis and Management of RYMV” workshop. March 2- 6 1996 Show less
