The first year was a 'gap' year - you studied primarily English. The comprehensive subjects followed from the second year. The first year we had 4 hours of English a day, plus 3 afternoon hours for in-class self-study, when we practised the new grammar or learned the daily dosage of 60-100 new words. The first year we had 4 hours of English a day, plus 3 afternoon hours for in-class self-study, when we practised the new grammar or learned the daily dosage of 60-100 new words. The following years we had 4 hours of English a week, together with all other comprehensive subjects. We used English as a medium to develop reading, writing and other communication skills. We had no choice of subjects for A-level - we had to study all fourteen of them: - Bulgarian Language and Literature- English Language and Literature- Russian Language - A Second Modern Language (French) - Mathematics - Algebra, Geometry and Triginometry- Physics- Chemistry - Biology- History - Geography- Ethics and Aesthetics - Art- Physical Education For university we had to have an A-grade on pretty much all of them.
