Applied the super-computing clusters at both the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-Madison to model the behavior of materials. This is important information to gather as it helps minimize experimental time and costs in a laboratory setting. The process involved developing an understanding of Linux operation systems and gathering a deeper understanding of the interactions between atoms in a larger structure.Presented 'Ab initio molecular dynamics study of structural stability of amorphous Li3BN2 and Li3AlN2" at UW-Eau Claire's 2019 CERCA (Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity). Abstracts may be found in the 2019 CERCA Abstract Book. Technologies used: Microsoft Office, VASP, MeDEA, VESTA Show less Undergraduate research in polymers and organometallic catalysts in collaboration with Northland College, fostering innovation in the fields of green chemistry and recycling. The project was multifaceted, managing multiple lines of inquiry. In the UW-Eau Claire chemistry laboratory, organic and inorganic synthesis methods were used to create original organic ligands which were attached to a metallic core. These organometallic complexes were then tested by the UWEC team as well as collaborators at Northland College for catalytic behavior. Characterization of these complexes uses Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR), and and some crystal X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Another aspect of the work was to characterize and determine the properties of various polymers sent to UWEC from Northland College. This part of the work was incorporated into my Senior Capstone project at the University and involves the use of NMR, Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), and tensile testing. To perform tensile testing, an Instron device was used while adhering to ASTM testing guidelines. Attended and presented at the American Chemical Society Conference in Boston in 2018. My team and I presented our work in polymers at the convention center to attendees from all over the globe - developing important communication and presentation skills. Show less In conjunction with a diversely talented team, engineered and prototyped a device to assist students who are legally blind navigate the campus environment independently. The device is based on Arduino and Bluetooth technologies that required programming skills. To facilitate implementation, we designed 3-D printed casing using Solidworks 18 as well as created a website to which the nearby beacon would send information to a student's smartphone. The device will be implemented across the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus in September, 2019.
