      Group Accountant

Responsibilities at Energis plc as Senior Group Accountant- Consolidation of monthly management accounts and year end statutory reportsResponsibility for the consolidation of the P&L account, balance sheet and cashflow statement for a group of 35 companies. The consolidation had many technical aspects such as sub consolidations, overseas subsidiaries, acquisitions, disposals, intergroup transfers of assets and minority interests. I was also responsible for reporting this information to the Board, as well as assisting in producing the commentary on the results.- Development and maintenance of the consolidation systemI was responsible for a number of significant updates to the consolidation system. This involved making technical modifications to the packages subsidiaries use to report to the group, and altering the information they provide in line with requests from the Board of directors.- Accounting manual projectAs part of a long-term program to produce an accounting manual, I undertook the task of producing comprehensive papers on revenue recognition, goodwill, impairment and long term contracts. These papers examined the differences between UK, US and International accounting standards, and their differing effects on the results of the group.Separate papers were also produced for the Board and audit committee advising on the financial effects of different accounting treatments being used in the group under UK and US GAAP.- Working with bidders in the take-over processThe company fell into financial difficulties in early 2002, having defaulted on its bank loan covenants. Following a sharp fall in the share price, an extensive bidding and refinancing project took place. I was heavily involved in dealing with the bankers and their due diligence teams in this process, being the first contact in many cases. Working in this dynamic environment was highly challenging and excellent experience. Show less
