  I began my fire service career with this industry leading organization early in 1979, became an F.A.O. in a year and in just over two years was promoted to a Company Officer level rank, through certifications and testing. During my years with LWFD we expanded from two to five stations, running over 5,000 calls a year, under the leadership of Chief Paul Boecker. This long time I.S.O. Class 1 Fire & EMS transport department is located in west suburban Chicago and covers a mix of residential single family and many multi-family complexes, along with commercial, high-tech and corporate office complexes and hotels, including many high rise facilities and has two major interstate highways running through the district. "Many" former employees of this agency have eventually taken positions of Chief or Chief Officers with other agencies throughout the Midwest and across the nation. In my years since working for this department, I've spoken with many well known fire service authors, lecturers and Fire Chiefs at various conferences around the country whom knew LWFD, Chief Boecker or some of the other officers of this department, that have contributed so much to the fire service, if I mentioned I was from Lisle, Illinois. Jeff began his career with Verlo as the first full time employee of the first franchise of this company located in Naperville, Illinois where he served as Regional General Manager of this factory and multi-store operation. In 1989 Jeff opened the Metro Atlanta franchise of Verlo Mattress Factory Stores.   Assigned as Operations Officer over logistics, vehicle & station maintenance, vehicle & equipment specifications and procurement, Ensuring compliance with all applicable standards in the operation of a suburban I.S.O. Class 1 Fire / Rescue Department serving 36,000 residents out of four stations, including EMS transport. Also responsible for maintaining various databases and QA of all reporting along with databases of records for I.S.O.. Life Member International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Show less Employed as Firefighter/EMT in 1990, promoted to Shift Commander August of 1992 and held that responsibility until December 2013. Was responsible every third day for 19 career as well as a staff of part-time and volunteer (P.O.C) personnel, providing fire and EMS response / transport services and all hazards response out of four (4) Fire Stations in a suburban setting. Early in career, established and set goals for departmental I.S.O. improvement, ultimately achieving the highest possible rating (Class 1). Also responsible for specifications and purchasing of department mobile apparatus and equipment, which included standardization of entire apparatus fleet, both in design of apparatus and equipment carried. Initiated records and inventory systems of department equipment, including annual testing and maintenance of hose, appliances, ladders, pumps, etc... Initiated plans for a station relocation and construction along with several station expansions and remodels, as well as a training center/burn building & pump test pit facility, intent of Training Center to be a Regional site. Initiated a certification training program for all new personnel, with goals of everyone attaining NPQ certifications this evolved into all personal achieving appropriate NPQ Firefighter/Fire Officer levels within the department. Early on, developed a Part-Time firefighter staffing program to offset Full Time personnel off days, eventually evolving to eight Part-Time personnel assigned to each of three 19 person shifts (27 personnel per Shift), further supplemented by Volunteer (POC/POP). This Part-Time program was eventually duplicated by several other area departments, as no area agencies had previously attempted this model.
