    • ZS Associates

      May 2016 - Jan 2018
      Associate

As an Associate working in the Advanced Analytics team, some of my key responsibilities included:• Processing and analysing raw data for use in other analytical workstreams• Tracking performance metrics• Running ad-hoc analyses based on these metrics• Streamlining existing worsktreamsZS Associates has been a major learning experience for me and I feel I spent a lot of time just learning new things and shadowing my peers on projects they worked on. However, I also worked on a couple of short terms projects aside from my key responsibilities. As part of my first independent project for a major US based pharmaceutical company, I was tasked with analysing the impact of sales rep calls on the prescriptions given by doctors in the US for a certain territory, which was later expanded to all territories. I was entrusted with complete responsibility and made the point of contact for the same. Over time, I was able to streamline the process in Micrsoft Excel. As my second independant project, I was given complete autonomy to work in Worldwide Analytics and Reporting which proved to be quite challenging and engaging due to the very nature of the project. As part of this project and reporting directly to the clients, I had to be extra vigilant while acquiring data from various vendors, applying relevant business rules to make it useable and equalise it to the level at which it was required. This was a monthly excercise which usually lead to follow up questions and deep dive analyses. During the course of this project, I also got the opportunity to work on SAS and SQL. Show less

This is in line with Enrico Moretti’s local multipliers. He posits that every time a local economy generates a new job by attracting a new business, additional jobs might also be created as a result of the increased demand for local good and services. However, merely generating employment is not enough. A crucial aspect of responsible mining practices is understanding the impact of such mining on local communities, before and after the life of a mine. Moreover, due to volatilities observed in Moretti’s local multipliers as well as the complex nature of interactions between the various economic agents within the local economy, there is an urgent need to start thinking about a more sustainable approach to mining operations. The study proposes a prognostic approach to mining operations using a Sustainable Livelihood Framework, built on the principles of governance theorised by Elinor Ostrom. The idea behind emphasising on such an approach lies in its structural ability to identify opportunities and problem areas even before mining operations are underway and simultaneously enabling monitoring and measurement of said development policy. Future potential studies from the perspective of human geography have greater potential to estimate returns on employment for agents involved in mining operations. A step in that direction is to do an observational deep study of the local environment around mining exploration sites, in order to better understand the interdependent strategic interactions that develop/potentially develop in these areas. To understand the potential dynamics of socioeconomic mobility within a space, we first posit a theoretical framework that models mobility as an outcome of strategic interdependence and actions of agents constituting the space. For the purpose of illustrating this pattern of interactions between various socioeconomic factors, we employ one of the oldest exploratory statistical techniques called Principal Components Analysis. Using information available in the National Family Health Survey 2015-16, we incorporate factors such as level of governance in the space, individual private wealth, household’s level of land ownership, degree of neighborhood affluence, and degree of equiproportionality in land distribution. Finally, we highlight the complex role of social identity and space in explaining mobility differentials across individuals in BIMARU and non-BIMARU states. Show less
