      As a graduate student at MechE Department at Carnegie Mellon Univeristy, I worked under Professor Kenji Shimada. My research area was robotics. I worked on Double Hull Block Welding Robot, a project sponsored by Tsunieshi Shipbuilding Company.       Hull Design Department (Internship) ResponsibilitiesMy research project was the design of a welding robot for double hull ships, which was sponsored by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Company. As an intern at Tsuneishi, I had the following responsibilities:1) Test the sensors for localization of the robot in the double hull environment.2) Discuss the different design of the mobile platform with the design team of Tsuneishi and gain their​ feedback.3) Build an algorithm for matching the sensor data with the CAD model.Accomplishments1) Three sensors: Lidar Lite, Ultrasonic Sensor, and Kinect were tested. Out of these three, Lidarlite and Kinect performed successfully whereas the ultrasonic sensor was dropped due to its ineptitude for measuring large distances.2) We incorporated the feedback that was gained by discussing different design with the company in the initial concept.3) An Iterative closest point algorithm was built to match the data collected by the sensor with the CAD model.
