  When I was 16, as a reward to myself for accomplishing a goal on a health journey, I decided to become a Zumba Instructor. I chose to be a Zumba Instructor as I was too young to be a personal fitness trainer. If Zumba approved my waiver, I could earn a license at the age of 16. I didn't want to teach adults, I wanted to teach kids. I decided I wanted to work with kids since I myself had been struggling with anxiety, not being the healthiest, and just not feeling good. I just hadn't had many options to help me at that time. My hometown is a small town with a population of 850 and there aren't many activities offered other than what is available at school. I became a licensed Zumba Instructor in January of 2019, I then earned my license for Kids Zumba a few months after that. I decided to create a program in my community to teach kids new and fun ways to stay active and to take control over their own health and wellness. I began to host Zumba Fitness events in my community and was soon invited to bring my program to surrounding areas. My first event I had 25 kids attend. I was so excited since I prayed for at least one to show up. I hosted my last event this summer August of 2021. After that event, my count for the kids I have worked with reached 375. During my time building this small kids fitness program, I also was able to take my program to a summer camp for children with special needs. I attended the camp once a week and had a new set of about 30 kids each week. This was one of the most rewarding opportunities I was able to take advantage of. At the encouragement of my community, I also held my first Kids Fitness Mini-Day Camp this summer. I had 26 children sign up and was very proud for not letting my self stop at just Zumba. I recently obtained my Personal Fitness Trainer Certification through ISSA, and hope to continue to work with kids on their health and wellness in the future. Show less
