      Missing & Murdered Diné Relatives raises funds and promotes initiatives to serve Navajo families and communities. We believe in acting with urgency to raise public awareness, promote prevention, and create healing spaces. I work with a dynamic team tasked with developing a framework for a proposed Missing & Murdered Diné Relatives data institute and creating a missing persons community action toolkit to empower Navajo communities to be proactive in prevention, awareness, and mobilization to recover missing relatives and provide support to families of MMDR.       Native American Pathway Program

      Mayo Clinic’s Native American Pathway Program (NAPP) is designed to address Native American health disparities by increasing the number of Native Americans in health careers. The program helps American Indian/Alaska Native undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students develop the skills and tools they need to matriculate and persist in medical school.The scholars participate in a five-week virtual summer program that offers coaching for career and medical school readiness, career exploration, introduction to scientific research, and remote clinical observation. The NAPP curriculum utilizes culturally resonant practices and is delivered with regard to Native identity, resilience, and well-being. Instructors come from diverse backgrounds and include Native professionals and tribal elders. Show less

      The Albuquerque Area Southwest Tribal Epidemiology Center (AASTEC) committed to working with me to provide me with exposure to applied public health practice within a tribal-serving organization. This internship provided me with an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and skills in the areas of data collection and management, survey design, program evaluation, community-based health research, developing health education/communication materials, and much more. I worked directly with AASTEC program staff including their epidemiologists and evaluation specialists to immerse myself in epidemiological sciences and gain experience through the public health scope.       Advancing Native American Diversity in Aging Research (Native American ADAR)

      Advancing Native Students in Aging Research is designed for undergraduate students, especially those from American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities. This culturally grounded course combines short-term, intensive laboratory and didactic courses and mentored pilot research in fundamental, translational, clinical, and behavioral aspects of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) and the mechanisms of aging, with ongoing mentoring to ensure both the launching and the retention of these promising candidates in research careers.       The Eagle Feather Fellowship of the Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples (SGF) emerged from recognizing the incredible contributions, ideas, and vision of young Indigenous Peoples to help build stronger, healthier, and self-determined Native communities and Nations. Eagle Feather Fellows are young Indigenous Peoples who are committed to participating in individual and collective learning opportunities so they may grow and contribute to the strength and vitality of themselves, their families, communities, and tribal nations. SGF hopes this opportunity will help shape and fortify young peoples’ understanding and dedication to the Indigenous Peoples’ movement for social and cultural justice, and Re-Indigenization.The Eagle Feather Fellowship for Thriving Women and Girls is a component of the Thriving Women Program that provides an opportunity for young Native women aged 18 -24 years to build their knowledge, skills, capacity, and empowerment as future leaders and positive community members. Through this fellowship, selected Eagle Feather Fellows will engage in peer-centered conversations and gatherings (virtual and in-person), personal and cultural sharing, building sisterhood and mutual understanding, and participate in identifying key priorities of Native young women and girls’ lives, dreams, and needs for healthy and safe futures. This latter process will help create and shape a framework to inform SGF’s grantmaking and program activities for its Thriving Women - New Songs Rising focus on Indigenous girls’ empowerment and well-being.
