Using a comprehensive approach that combined in vitro reconstitution, live cell imaging, quantitative image analysis and theoretical modeling (in a collaboration), I uncovered that the interplay between active actomyosin flows and the varying affinities of membrane proteins to these flows actively sorts and patterns these proteins.
