Crafted a proposal and roll-out plan to establish, articulate, and align the technical update with the mission, vision and values of KIPP King. In anticipation of my role as Student Body President, my design included a link to weekly surveys to ensure students’ opinions were being captured and readily available during Student Government meetings and school-wide event-planning meetings.   The Gashora Health Clinic has a high class water filtration unit on site which has the potential to give the entire village access to clean water. However, it is currently only connected to rain water. That means that Gashora has safe drinking water only two months out of the year. Our plan (all 11 Penn Engineers): Dig a trench from Lake Rumira to the Gashora Health Clinic. Lay pipes in the trench. Install solar powered pumps near the lake and connect the solar panels to the pump. The pump will bring water from Lake Rumira, up a hill and into a holding tank from which a water filtration system delivered by GE and Emory University will take water to run through its system. This water will also be available to the community via community spouts on the exterior of the Clinic's property. Our plan (ICT Team, 5 engineers): The Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology, founded in part by a Penn Alum, struggles with unreliable internet connection. We we will be updating the RACHEL (Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning) that Penn installed at GGAST last year as well as installing new ones at Gashora Primary School, Mwendo Primary School, and Dihiro Primary School, enabling students to access educational software (ie. Khan Academy, wikipedia, dictionaries, etc) without an internet connection. Specifically at GGAST, our team will be conducting Python coding workshops for students and One Laptop Per Child software/hardware professional development workshops. Divided into smaller teams in which each Penn student is paired with two GGAST students, we will each build our own Raspberry Pi 3 machines/robots. Show less
