    • Lake County Housing Authority

      Jul 2012 - Oct 2013
      Family Self Sufficiency Manager

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program of Lake County Housing Authority is an employment and savings incentive program. As the Case Manager, I provide aggressive but empowering case management services for low-income families utilizing Section 8. The case management services are complete when maintaining employment and financial independence are both achieved. Independence is sought out as the client has overcome the core barriers and established a firm foundation. The clients and I work to develop an in-depth service plan for a 5 year period covering goals for Housing, Family, Personal Interest, Education, Financial and Building an Escrow Account! The escrow savings account grows as the client grows in their employment success. As the family pays an increased rental amount, the excess amount from where they started paying rent goes directly into an escrow account. To date my most successful client was able to save $32 K and is currently purchasing her first home. Families do not have to give up their Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher if they are not living above the fair market rent but the goal is to bring the families to a place where hope is real and being successful is within reach, regardless of race, gender, background, demographics any barriers a person might face.
