      Jan 2002 - Jan 2004
Computer Sales Representative and Support Technician

Provided end user support to a client based spread over the Cape Peninsula from Cape Town to Franschhoek and Somerset West. I supported users, using Windows mainly, with a few Mac OS 9 users. I was responsible for managing mail systems, such as FTGate, vPOP3 & Exchange. Most of the users had Windows servers (NT4 – 2003), which were used for Windows based file and print sharing. Our mail servers ran on top of these, pulling mail from various ISPs. I was also responsible for supporting Pastel & ACCPac. I was involved in sourcing and supplying hardware to clients, as well as providing insight in to and recommend what hardware would be needed for specific tasks and design systems to these specifications. Some of our clients included two prominent nation-wide shipping companies; one internationally based shipping company; two prominent medical associations; numerous hotels and small businesses (SOHO and SMEs). I gained excellent and valuable experience in system operations and various types of hardware and software. In this role I met a wide variety of people, running different systems, tailored to their needs. Show less

    • Currant Technologies

      Jan 2005 - Jan 2008
Support Technician / Support Engineer / Senior Support Engineer

At Currant Technologies, I was responsible for our high-end clients, running Microsoft and Linux server solutions. My responsibilities ranged from day to day management of client’s systems to assisting in the management and maintenance of our wireless internet infrastructure. The clients that I was directly responsible for, ran systems ranging from simple Fetchmail/Sendmail Linux systems to Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 Standard/Enterprise and Small Business Server with Exchange 2003/2007. I was tasked with the rollouts of complete system overhauls, which involved performing system audits and then providing feedback to the client, providing a viable solution to their needs after careful evaluation. I gained valuable experience in wireless technologies, using Mikrotik Routerboards running RouterOS and other products, for example, ZyXELL Zywalls and ADSL routers, as well as the Netgear & D-Link range of products. I played a major role in the setup of nationwide VPNs for four clients, some with 32 branches. Much more but this doesn't allow more characters Show less

    • Africa Media Online

      Nov 2008 - Jun 2009
System Administrator / Image Retoucher / Data Storage Manager

At Africa Media Online, I was responsible for the smooth running of their internal infrastructure, consisting of three Linux servers and Windows/Mac workstations. I was involved with the setting up of contributor’s websites on their MEMAT system. While doing this, I configured the photo galleries using virtualisation on the FreeBSD servers and ensured all the sites were correct according to the graphics created by a third party. I was exposed to FreeBSD systems, as well as re-installing an Ubuntu Linux Server in the USA on a VMWare server remotely.Day to day running included ensuring that all the Windows PCs and Mac OS X computers were able to efficiently access the SAMBA file server and that there was enough storage for the 1000’s of 200MB images that were processed on the production line. Managing this data was a mammoth task, involving continual restructuring of data and transferring data among extra hard drives, while waiting for the new storage server to go live. I built on my existing Unix and Linux skills and enjoyed the job immensely. I also worked as an Image Retoucher on the production line. This entailed editing RAW scanned images, to remove any blemishes etc from the images. Show less

    • WDS Global

      Jul 2009 - Dec 2009
      Knowledge Analyst

My role at WDS Global was quite diverse. My responsibilities ranged from providing technical assistance on user’s PCs as well as on various makes and models of mobile handsets to being the last stop in the quality control process for the content written by the team. This last stop meant that I was the last person to check quality of the content before being submitted to the client, Vodacom. Other tasks included extracting HTML pages into a Microsoft Access database, which is then hosted on an IIS site where I would perform my quality control. I worked closely with the content writers, publishers and quality analysts to ensure that they had everything they needed for their tasks and to ensure that the content that is delivered to the client is of the highest quality. During technical assistance, I would need to prove that a particular technical task can be performed on the said handset and if the technical writer was unable to do so, I would need to train the writer on what they need to do.
