Evidence suggests that a walkable public space emerges from decisions made in the private domains. A next step, concerns the applicability of these concepts in practice when in new urbanization and, with greater challenges, intervention in consolidated urban fabrics, making the public space more walkable.Key words: walkability; public-private interface; spatial evaluation; urban morphology; active mobility; active transportation. The major challenge of this work consists in renovating existing housing through technical assistance. This is a government implemented social housing policy that elevates low income families to becoming direct clients, establishing a strong rapport between architect and neighbours. The project, Ponte do Maduro, is a partnership between the GLTN (Global Land Tool Network), UN Habitat and the government of the State of Pernambuco. It details the process of land regularization, which encompasses surveying lands, social surveys, creating legal deeds and dictating ownership through the community. Show less

      The Healthy Urban Mobility (HUM hum-mus.org) Project is a study to understand the impact of everyday (im)mobility on health and wellbeing with a variety of social groups living in different neighbourhoods in Brazil and the UK. It is a collaborative study model between three separate research studios in Brazil and Oxford Brookes University. It endeavours to explore the potential for participatory mobility planning within local communities to support and develop solutions for healthy urban mobility. My specific responsibilities included the preparation of scientific reports, processing quantitative and qualitative data, supporting field work logistics, and managing the research database. Additional roles included financial accounting and oversight for the project, schedule planning, organization of research events and workshops, creating presentations and scientific articles. I presented the Project at conferences throughout Brazil and Portugal. Show less
