      Conduct research in Chronic Wasting Disease, and CJD, developing a greater understanding of prion pathogenesis by deciphering molecular information that allows infectious prions to cross species barriers, assess "prion strains" and their zoonotic potential, and studying molecular pathways that lead to the formation of the infectious prion protein. The Telling Laboratory is particularly recognized for their work on transgenic mouse modeling of prion diseases, it is one of only a handful of research groups with the resources and expertise for studying prion diseases using whole animal, transgenic, cell biological, biochemical, and molecular genetic approaches.Notable experiments: -The effect of hepes on cellular prion protein, The origin of chronic wasting disease.-The origin of chronic wasting disease. *Screening "prion strains" in transgenic and gene transfer mice to show how chronic wasting disease developed in deer, elk, moose, and mink.
