      As a public affairs specialist, I am often in contact with the press and constantly looking for articles regarding our department. I fact check online articles and help to identify when the department needs to respond. I send out press releases using Vocus (Cision), and also send letters to the editor and op-eds to newspapers across the state. I write blogs on various environmental issues and am in charge of promoting our department through social media plans. I also plan and write talking points for speaking events, radio interviews, and TV interviews for the executive team. I write and format handouts for tours across the state and federal delegation meetings. As of June '16, I was elected Co-Chair of DEQ's Leadership Forum. I lead meetings, delegate tasks, and plan department-wide events. Our largest event brings together supervisors from DEQ's regional offices across the state to Raleigh in order to meet with executive staff and discuss how to improve their management skills.
